Stump grinding pricing depends mainly on the stump's diameter, how many stumps you're grinding at once, and how accessible they are.
What drives the cost
- Stump diameter. Larger stumps take longer to grind down below grade.
- Number of stumps. Grinding several stumps in one visit is more efficient — and usually cheaper per stump — than a single one-off call.
- Root system and access. Stumps near fences, driveways, or underground utilities take more care to grind safely.
- Bundling with removal. If we're already on-site taking a tree down, grinding the stump in the same visit typically costs less than scheduling it separately later.
What "grinding" actually does
We grind the stump and surface roots down below grade so the area can be reseeded, landscaped, or paved over. It doesn't remove the entire root system underground, but it stops regrowth and eliminates the trip hazard and eyesore.
