Grinding removes the visible stump and reduces it below surrounding grade, making the area easier to restore, landscape or maintain. It is usually less disruptive than excavating the entire root system.
How deep is a stump ground?
The required depth depends on what will happen to the area afterward. Lawn restoration, landscaping and construction can require different scopes. Tell us your end goal when requesting a quote.
What happens to the roots?
Stump grinding does not remove every lateral root. Remaining roots generally decay over time. If a future excavation or structure requires complete root removal, that is a different scope from normal stump grinding.
Before grinding
Underground utilities and private services must be considered. Irrigation, landscape lighting and other privately installed lines may not be covered by standard utility locates, so let us know what is present around the stump.
